Friday, Saturday and Sunday

As you can see I am behind on my updates which is not unusual, we just got busy over the weekend, so I will attempt to review the last three days:

Friday, July 11th

Friday did not have a lot going schedule wise. One thing we like to do when we don’t have a schedule that’s busy is go before the Lord and see where He would have us. After breakfast, the Team headed down to the dining room for some worship and intercession. Tamara suggested that maybe we should do a prayer walk at Chonnam University where our very own Dr. Lee in Montrose studied. After the prayer walk the Team headed back to Saesoon Community Church changed into blue shirts and denim shorts and headed to Central Park in downtown Gwangju. This performance was full of spirit as the Team seemed energized by their prayer walk. We caught some people returning home from work as well as a few families. A Deacon was there at the invitation of Grace and he invited us to have dinner with him this Thursday at the Central Church and a performance on Sunday.

Saturday, July 12th

Saturday was mostly spent eating. I say that in jest as the South Korean’s love language is definitely food. After breakfast we changed into our blues and denims once again and headed to the museum. We met some missionaries from the US and they joined us for a snack time. Kim bap that was brought in by Tamara. This was around 11:30am. After eating we set up the sound in front of the museum and performed. The Teams testimonies are getting better each time we perform and that is always a good sign. As I mentioned in an earlier post it’s easy to go into cruise control and go through the motions but when testimonies start getting more and more deeper it means what has been gleaned over this time is finally setting in and bearing fruit.

After the performance we attempted an unsuccessful visit to the museum we performed in front of, as it was closed. However, there was another museum about a mile away which we walked to. The museum was interesting, but the AC made it even more special. After about a half hour tour our trusty bus driver Pastor “O” picked us up and we headed back to the church. On the top floors it has been very hard to have hot showers so we usually go down to the fourth floor but on this day a nice cold shower was definitely the way to go. After the refreshing cold showers we got changed and headed to the dining room where we were hosted by the team from Tamara’s English service members. By the way this is the “A” Team that has so faithfully prayed for us before our arrival and have gone to great lengths to take care of us and serve us during our stay here.  After brief introductions and prayer we were eager start eating again. The food was incredible and the fellowship was truly sweet. We had to rush a little as we had an appointment with Saesoon Church high school youth.

Other than the food and performances this would most definitely be a highlight. Young people enjoy spending time with other young people and this proved to be true as both groups took to each other right off the bat. Even though there wasn’t an interpreter it made it all the better as our Team were embraced by the youth group. After introductions we hung out a little and then it was back to the dining room for another meal. Watermelon eating contests ensued as well as fun and games. We ended up heading to bed round 9:30pm. Yes yours truly was definitely in the thick of things making sure that our Team was well chaperoned.

Sunday, July 13th

Sunday would have to be our busiest day to date. We had breakfast at 8:00am and a team meeting was held right after. David explained in detail our schedule for the day which we were all thankful for. Megan also met with her team of girls that are going to speak this week at Mark Liebenthal’s English classes. We got changed into our uniforms and headed to our church service only to find out that we were in the wrong building and the service that we were supposed to be at didn’t require us to perform. We finally got to the right service and the team did get to perform three songs. Despite all the confusion we had a wonderful time. David preached an awesome sermon that revolved around all the songs that we perform to and it was received very well.

As soon as the service was over we were ushered into the dining room and sat down to eat. We often wondered why they had so many seats and tables in the dining room and we quickly realized why. After the main service the whole church of about a thousand plus all file through, from high school, middle school, elementary and kindergarten to adult services all gather for lunch. The Saesoon parishioners gracefully  allowed us to cut the long lines and get our food. When the meal was over we headed to the church bus and were quickly whisked away to a boys juvenile centre. We performed for about 50 to 60 boys all crammed in a small chapel room. Again, our testimonies and David’s closing words I believe made an impact on those boys.

The bus took us back to Saesoon Church where we took advantage of some rest time for about an hour and a half and we were off again to MDream Children’s Home. We arrived around 4:30pm. Waited until dinner was served, had dinner and performed two songs at their chapel time. We then proceeded to the building where we helped with the craft kits and were joined by the elementary kids. Each of the Team members sat with an individual and helped them put their kit together. We snacked on fried chicken, french fries and pizza with all the kids there.

It was definitely a full day and when we got back to the church we quickly got showers out of the way and it was time for bed.
