We were up bright and early in the morning with the boys deciding on a 6am morning run. David started a fire in the fireplace which kept us all huddled together. It is a little nippy here especially at night but the days are perfect. Adjusting to the weather hasn’t been a problem at all for the team as the Vincent’s and Buntrok’s have provided extra bedding and also jackets and hoodies for the team. David, Megan and Joan started us off with an Aussie breakfast, Spaghetti on toast, the boys and Geoff cleaned up after breakfast and the team got ready for church.
Church was about a 5 minute walk from our facility. Teira, Jamie, Shae, Shannon, Mateo and Tayne performed on behalf of the team and David shared the message. The church that we were at is actually Max and Gidget Buntrok’s church. David’s message was based from Hebrews and he talked about faith. This was very readily accepted by the congregation as well as the team. We had a very warm welcome and they served us hot drinks and snacks after the service. The team made their way back to base and got changed. David took orders from each team member and headed to town to get Subway sandwiches for lunch.
While waiting several team members took a walk with Geoff and we pretty much took the rest of the day off. David arrived with lunch shortly after and after eating, most of the team members under Geoff and Samuel’s guidance engaged in one of the longest rugby games ever. This game lasted all afternoon but was “imperative” to understanding Southern hemisphere culture. Needless to say, we will have sore bodies tomorrow but all at the expense of honest to goodness fun. Tristen Cramer had a little mishap that involved some “doggy do” and that brought the game to an end on a funny but high note. Some of the members of the team had the special privilege of “Drop Bear” hunting, the Australian equivalent to “Snipe” hunting, but it’s better that those involved recount their own version of the story.
We were also very happy to have Miranda Rea from PNG the final member of the team join us in the afternoon. It is a very good feeling to have our team complete and parent’s your young people are doing exceptionally well. Apart from being a little tired from the trip we are looking forward to getting settled in a schedule and starting our Bootcamp. Our staff members David, Kathleen, Clara, Joan, Megan, Teira and Geoff are very excited and ready to get the Bootcamp phase underway. Your prayers are very much coveted and appreciated especially during this phase as this is so foundationally critical to the outreach.
